Machine Vision

Machine Vision

According to the Automated Imaging Association (AIA), Machine Vision encompasses all industrial and non-industrial applications in which a combination of hardware and software provide operational guidance to devices in the execution of their functions based on the capture and processing of images.

What are the basic types of Machine Vision system?

Broadly speaking the different types of vision systems include 1D Vision Systems, 2D Vision Systems, Line Scan or Area Scans and 3D Vision Systems.

What is the difference between Machine Vision and Computer Vision?

A Machine Vision system uses a camera to view an image, Computer Vision algorithms then process and interpret the image, before instructing other components in the system to act upon that data. Computer Vision can be used alone, without needing to be part of a larger machine system.
